Breadsmith of South Bend opened in March of 2003, becoming South Bend’s only bona-fide artisan bakery where hand-crafted European-style breads are made daily from scratch using the highest quality ingredients with no additives or preservatives. In addition to our breads we serve up muffins, scones, cookies, coffee cakes, cinnamon claws and brownies. Our expert production team makes all our delicious baked goods with state-of-the-art mixing equipment, and with our massive steam-injecting Mondial-Forni Italian oven. We are also the only Kosher bakery in the area, certified by the Hebrew Orthodox congregation of South Bend. As a tasty counterpart to our baked goods we also offer Alterra gourmet coffees (in a cup or by the pound), and specialty items such as jams, oils, mustards, soups and sauces.

Along with making the best bread in town, we enjoy serving the community of South Bend/Mishawaka and the surrounding areas. We regularly participate in fund-raising activities for local charities, and we donate each day’s left-over bread to community service organizations. We care about this growing community, and wish to play a vital role as it continues to develop and find new ways to enhance life for its residents.

We have always loved great bread, and are delighted to have the opportunity to open a Breadsmith bakery in South Bend. It is truly an age-old craft to make great artisan bread (no shortcuts allowed!), and we take great pride in what we do. We hope you’ll come in and see us!
