We love real bread. It tastes great! Real bread is made from scratch,
by hand, without chemicals to speed up the process or preservatives.
It is sold the day it is made.
At Breadsmith, our bread takes time to make – from
gathering ingredients from the best suppliers, local producers
whenever possible, making each dough from scratch, kneading
each roll and loaf by hand, giving bread all the time
it needs to rise and baking it to perfection.
Where did we get the idea to make traditional European
and hearty American style breads? We grew up in European
households. Sabine lived in Italy for six years and her
parents emigrated from Germany. Ginius' parents emigrated
from Lithuania. We grew up spending Saturdays with our
parents, traveling far and wide, finding fresh healthy
foods direct from local farms, enjoying fresh breads,
and taking pleasure in baked goods created in the Old
World style.
Inspired by childhood experiences, Ginius, a computer
professional, and Sabine, an art historian, became bakers,
opening Breadsmith in 2003. Located in Lakewood, our bakery
keeps the tradition of European Bakers specializing in
crusty European-style breads, and hearty American breads
made fresh from scratch daily.
Breadsmith is more than a bakery. In addition to making great tasting,
healthy bread our mission is to be a good neighbor. We hold
fundraisers for local organizations, support community organizations
and donate the leftover bread from each day to various food
banks/kitchens.
